More breaking news concerning casting, coming out of The Marvel Universe today. The list of actors who may be sought to play the title role of Dr. Stephen Strange in Marvel’s Dr. Strange has probably just been knocked down to one name – Benedict Cumberbatch.
Deadline reports that Cumberbatch is now if final talks to play Marvel Comics sorcerer supreme. There have been many names connected to this role including Tom Hardy, Keanu Reeves, and originally Joaquin Phoenix.
Variety reports that a deal with Cumberbatch would likely be contingent on his shooting schedule which will of course include the hit BBC series, Sherlock.
As per usual though, Marvel has been mum on news concerning the deal. There is also still no release date connected to the project, although it seems likely to be targeted for a spring or early summer 2016 release. Scott Derrickson is already set to direct the film that will be based on a script from Jon Spaihts.
