Back in April, when he was pretending to be a podcaster, former slugger Jose Canseco made news by claiming the Hall of Fame had a steroid user in its midst.
"How can just you say that the steroid era didn't happen?" the New York Times bestselling author of Juiced hypothetically asked the baseball writers. "Some of the players that have already been inducted (in the Hall of Fame) used steroids by the way. There are some players in the Hall of Fame that used performance enhancing drugs or chemicals."
Sure, he didn't name names, but we all wondered. Who could it be? Should we even believe Canseco?!? I can't wait for the third installment of his podcast!
Well…now there's this.
Eric Byrnes, who spent eleven years in the bigs, is making his own claims.
"I was having dinner with a former long time Major League player that spoke about the steroid use of a prominent Hall of Famer that played the majority of his career in the 70′s and 80′s," Byrnes writes over at his website. "Ha! Not like I was shocked but damn. So many members of the Hall of Fame, including this character, have recently spoken out and condemned guys who have had ties to performance enhancing drugs, saying there is no place for cheaters in the HOF. I just wonder how many of the other guys in the Hall were actually cheaters themselves?"
Like Canseco, Byrnes, who now works for the MLB Network, doesn't name names, but, again, we can speculate. But one thing's for sure…unlike Canseco, Byrnes is clearing his name of any wrong doings.
"I never used steroids and there is absolutely no reason why you should believe me," he writes. "As a matter of fact, there is no reason why you should not question any player who played from the mid 1970′s to every one of the current players today."
