Dallas’ 2012 Olympian Errol “The Truth” Spence, Jr. (16-0, 13 KO’s) stepped into the ring for his first fight of 2015 and he continued his welterweight surge against Samuel “the Bull” Vargas (20-2-1, 10 KO’s) from Colombia. The fight was on the undercard of the Danny Garcia-Lamont Peterson welterweight and Andy Lee-Peter Quillin fight on NBC’s Premier Boxing Champions on Saturday night. The fight was scheduled for ten rounds, but after working the body and landing consecutive punches to the head as Vargas was on the ropes, the referee stepped in to stop the fight by TKO at 1:45 of the fourth round. Spence’ career started off on a meteoric run in 2013 with eight professional starts and it continued into 2014 with five more successful fights. This was the third tenth round fight the southpaw welterweight prospect has had and two of them were by knockout and the other one was won by unanimous decision. 2015 should be an exciting year for Spence, where possible names like Keith Thurman, Devon Alexander and other top welterweights could be on the horizon. Spence is included with other top fighters from Dallas, Texas who can be it’s next world champion, including Roberto Marroquin (24-3-1, 17 KO’s), Charles “The Future” Hatley (25-1-1, 17 KO’s), Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker (17-0-2, 13 KO’s), and Ray Ximenez, Jr. (12-0, 3 KO’s) among others, but the question is, who will be first.
