ESPN has just announced where College Gameday will be for the first two weeks of the college football season.
The first site, Atlanta was not a surprise, it’s where the kickoff game will be held, but the second site, Columbus was a secret until now. Here’s what ESPN says:
First Two College GameDay Sites for 2009 Season Announced: From Atlanta September 5 and Columbus September 12
The first two College GameDay sites of the 2009 season have been determined with the show kicking off in Atlanta September 5 followed by Columbus, Ohio September 12. ESPN’s Emmy Award-winning Saturday morning college football show will be aired Saturdays at 10 a.m. ET beginning September 5.
The 17th season of consistently originating from one of the day’s best games or matchups with compelling storylines – and 23rd season of the show — will kick off from Atlanta for the second annual Kickoff Game pitting #5 Alabama vs. #7 Virginia Tech (all rankings from the USA Today Top 25 Coaches’ Poll). The matchup will mark the debut of the fourth annual Saturday Night Football series on ABC at 8 p.m.
The following week, Saturday, September 12, College GameDay will originate from Columbus, Ohio for #4 USC at #6 Ohio State in a showdown between traditional power programs that will be televised on ESPN at 8 p.m.
Throughout the season, each site will generally be announced the Monday before the game.Chris Fowler will host the program for his 20th season and be joined by analysts Lee Corso, who has been affiliated with the show since its first year, Kirk Herbstreit, who joined in 1996, and Desmond Howard, entering his fourth year.
Lee Corso who suffered a mild stroke earlier this year is shooting to return for the season premiere in Atlanta and here’s hoping to see his mascot heads back at that time.
