ESPN’s “Face” of the Brewers

ESPN.com has taken upon itself to survey experts and identify which player or manager is the “face” of each club: ESPN’s MLB faces The Brewers’ face? I have to admit that I was stumped, initially, when trying to guess who it might be…Geoff Jenkins, I first thought, by virtue of his tenure. Then Ben Sheets jumped ahead, due to his tenure and success (not to mention all the fantasy owners that have been burned in drafting him due to his injury history). But Prince Fielder won the nod. This makes sense, but it was still a surprise to me, as it was just over two years ago that I saw the big guy smack his first MLB homer on June 25, 2005, against the Twins. But his recent All-Star experience, plus leading the NL in homers in ’07, has already grabbed the attention of the national media. Even more surprising on the list–the Tigers’ face…manager Jim Leyland??? I suppose the general equality of Magglio Ordoñez, Gary Sheffield, and Justin Verlander negate each other. Vin Scully of the Dodgers? Bobby Cox of the Braves? I suppose the Jones’ boys offset each other, too. What do you all think?
