Yesterday was a treat and a half, reintroducing some of you and introducing others of you for the first time to the player that was Pat Richter. Now today we get a double dose of Badger players to kickoff as we're just Ethan Hemer and Marquis Mason to Badger football 2013!!
That's right, just 87 days away. So, let's not waste any more time and let's get into both of these players, shall we?
Ethan Hemer's story so far:
– In 2012 Hemer earned honorable mention All-Big Ten status as a DT with 24 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and 3 passes defensed.
– After walking on to the Badgers, Hemer earned his scholarship following the 2011 season.
– This season Hemer is likely to move to an end position in the new 3-4 defense and could well see those numbers be blown out of the water.
– He was named to the 2010 Academic All-Big Ten team and was the 2009 Defensive Scout team Player of the Year
Marquis Mason's story so far:
– Mason was one of the highest rated wide receivers coming out of hometown Madison East high school in 2010, ranked 39th by Rivals and 71st by Scout.
– He has yet to catch the ball after redshirting in 2010 and not playing in 2011, he also didn't record a single catch in the 2012 season either.
History of No. 87 at Wisconsin:
It should start and end with one name…. Al Toon. He was simply the man in Madison during the early part of the 1980's and his name still sits as one of the all-time greats at the UW. In fact he is one of just seven wide receivers to ever have over 2,000 yards receiving in a career and currently ranks 6th in that category on the all-time list. Toon's 131 career receptions also have him 6th in that category all-time at UW. He's easily the most recognizable name of the 80's at Wisconsin.
J.J. Watt also wore this number for one season, the 2008 season, before switching to his now famous No. 99 at Wisconsin – a fact that is probably lost on most of us (I know I had forgotten that information).
