The Delaware 87ers announced Thursday that Eugene Burroughs will be their new head coach going into the 2016-2017 season. Burroughs comes from the Sevens affiliate the Philadelphia 76ers, where he was a shooting coach for the past two seasons.
Burroughs is a native of Philadelphia and went to high school at Episcopal Academy. Before joining the Sixers staff the Philly native coached at Penn State, Marist, Navy, American University, and Hofstra.
The coaching change is a part of a swap the Sixers are doing with the Sevens to give everyone a chance to experience both aspects of the game. Burroughs is the third coach in Delaware 87ers history and will take over for Kevin Young who was the head coach for two years at the Sevens. Young will join the 76ers as an assistant coach and he will bring his assistant coach John Bryant with him who will serve as an Player Development Coach for the 76ers as well. 87ers first coach Rod Baker was promoted as a scout for the 76ers after his first year coaching the Sevens.
Sevens General Manager said this about the coaching change to Burroughs:
