European Rundown

Opening up this European rundown just like last week with USMNT star Jozy Altidore. The 22 year old  forward for AZ Alkaamr netted his 14th goal of the season. AZ won 3-1 against SC Heracles. The win propelled AZ to the top of the table just one point above Dutch heavyweights PSV who were upset 6-2 by third place FC Twente.


Keeping up with the theme of Americans scoring, Clint Dempsey bagged two goals for Fulham in the 5-0 rout over Wolves. Clint now stands at 18 goals in all competition for the season. Moving away from Americans but staying in England, Man City won their 19th straight home game and stay tops of the EPL beating Bolton 2 -0. Manchester United is giving City a run for their money. Both teams keep winning and with only a two point difference in the standings it should make for a great conclusion of the season.


In a shocking turn of events Ricardo Kaka is the toast of La Liga. He recorded a goal and two assist in Madrid’s 5 nil win over Espanyol. Madrid kept their 10 point lead over Barcelona and looks to be in cruise control.


The game of the week was Liverpool v Arsenal. Liverpool is battling to keep themselves in European qualification contention while Arsenal is trying to maintain a top 3 spot. Both teams needed three points to help boost their subpar seasons. Arsenal emerged victorious by winning 2-1. Arsenal scored two goals and  both goals came from MVP candidate Van Persie.


Shifting gears to Italy, league leaders AC Milan put the beat down on Palermo beating them 4-0. Star striker Zaltan Ibrahemavich had a first half hat trick (Highlights below) and Brazilian defender Tiago Silva had the fourth goal in the second half.

Milan caught a break when second place Juventus drew Chievo Verona. Juventus rose early on off of a De Cegile goal. Some shoddy defense kept Chievo on the attack. A poor clearance lead to a goal by Boukary Drame. The Flying Donkeys also got a great performance by American midfielder Michael Bradley.


Fifth place Napoli continued their fine form winning 2-1 over Parma. The two goals scored by one of Serie A most dynamic duo in Cavani and Lavezzi. The duo has combined for 23 goals this season as they look to climb into a champions league spot.


In Germany, Borussia Dortmund continued their ways winning eight straight. The Bundesliga leaders sit seven points clear of Bayern Munich who lost 2 nil to Levrkusen. Newly converted American Fabian Johnson went the full 90 for TSG Hoffenheim. Fabian has become a regular in the Hoffenheim defense normally playing at left back. Today the young American showed some diversity and played center back.
