Boston Red Sox
What a difference a year makes, right? The Red Sox dominated from start-to-finish in 2018 but find themselves on the outskirts of contention at the moment with a 56-47 record. Although it’ll be tough to catch the Yankees, who are 11 games ahead of them in the standings, manager Alex Cora‘s club is only two games out of the final wild-card spot.
Boston clearly is in search of help for the rotation. After all, they wouldn’t have felt the need to acquire Andrew Cashner if that wasn’t the case. His first two starts (11 innings) with his new club has resulted in a 7.36 ERA, 3.27 homers allowed per nine innings, and -0.2 fWAR.
While it’s still early, that’s not an ideal start for a club with no real margin for error. Going after Bumgarner because of the lower prospect cost and his rental status is a draw, but of course, they’re on MadBum’s no-trade list. When looking at his peripherals, it just doesn’t seem like a good idea for him to switch from the National League to American League.
Especially to a division with more hitter-friendly parks than most.
