Atlanta Braves
Like virtually all the clubs on this list, the Braves are on Bumgarner’s no-trade list, but there’s a little bit of a twist here. The southpaw grew up in North Carolina and went to high school about four hours away from Atlanta. So, there might be some motivation for MadBum to see a trade work out with the Braves and come home.
It makes sense on Atlanta’s end of the situation, as they have a number of young arms who may be bumping up against innings restrictions pretty soon. Bringing Bumgarner into the mix would give the club another veteran arm with significant postseason experience to pair with Dallas Keuchel.
What will be telling is how the Giants perform in the coming days. If they go south, it’ll allow Zaidi to proceed with his plan and sell off some assets. If they don’t, though, who knows what will happen. Atlanta has a deep enough farm system where they could make San Francisco an offer they can’t refuse, but they may have to anyways.
And even if they don’t refuse, there’s at least some kind of chance Bumgarner refuses it himself and elects to finish this year with the Giants prior to hitting free agency.
