“We’d like to see what’s there,” team president Bill Polian said after Brandstater participated in the Colts’ final organized team activities recently. “The backup quarterback is Curtis Painter. The question is: Do we carry a third, and if we do, who is it?”
Brandstater is intent on ensuring he’s in mix that currently includes Painter, Drew Willy and Tim Hiller. All want to serve as Peyton Manning’s backup.
“I’m going to compete to be the best guy I can be,” said Brandstater, a 2009 sixth-round pick of the Broncos out of Fresno State. “The coaches will designate my role based on my play. If I play well and do everything I can, the rest will take care of itself.”
