Ex-catcher Won't Be Dancing With The Stars

As America waits in anticipation for the latest cast of "Dancing with the Stars" to be announced, baseball fans can, once again, let out their collective breath.  For the 17th season in a row, the hit ABC television program will not have a Major Leaguer (past or present) hit the dance floor.

But, unlike the previous incarnations…there was almost one in the mix.

Early on, it was rumored that Jason Varitek was slated to join the impressive list of former pro athletes that competed on the show.  Unfortunately for fans of the former Boston Red Sox catcher, Catherine Vartiek confirmed that her husband would not be following in the dance steps, er, footprints of past winners Emmitt Smith, Helio Castroneves and Donald Driver.

Oh, in case you're wondering who is on tap for the show and can't wait until Wednesday's announcement…it's rumored that retired wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson and reigning Indy 500 winner Tony Kanaan will be representing the sports world.
