Embattled former NFL star Greg Hardy wants to be a f’n fighter.  A MMA fighter, to be exact.  Hardy played defensive end for the Carolina Panthers and the Dallas Cowboys from 2010 to 2015, whose best season was 2013, when he was named to the All-Pro team and played in the Pro Bowl.  A 6’4″ 280 pound+ explosive athlete, who is only 28-years-old, Hardy could be trouble in the cage.

However, Hardy brings with him quite a bit of baggage (hence the word ’embattled’ used to start this article).  Which would explain why he isn’t in the NFL any longer and even is considering taking up another sport.  The biggest issue was a very serious domestic violence incident in 2013, along with an arrest for cocaine possession just a few weeks ago.

Regardless, MMA Fighting reports that Hardy has been training MMA for several months in the Dallas area and is targeting a 2017 debut in the cage.  Several promotions are reportedly already interested in signing him to their roster.

The transition from pro football to the cage has been a fairly successful one for several athletes, including Matt Mitrione, Brendan Schaub, and Herschel Walker.  An athlete as big and explosive as Hardy (4.79 40-yard dash, 36″ vertical) could cause a lot of mayhem in the cage – assuming he can curtail the mayhem outside of it.
