Ex Saints still looking for jobs in 2016

-4

When you look at the Saints roster you get the feeling it is close to complete but they could still round out some of their needs with some post draft pick ups. When the Saints start seeing some of these guys practice, too, they’ll get a better feel for whether or not they need to bring in certain veterans at a given position. And of course there’s still guys that were with the team in 2015 still looking for jobs. The longer they stay available, the more you wonder about the chance the Saints could bring them back at some point just to compete, either in preseason or afterwards.

Robert Meachem, WR: Meachem has been out of the NFL for a year but he worked out for the Saints recently. Makes you wonder if they might consider bringing him back at some point.

Marques Colston, WR: Is he retiring? The NFL Network suggested as much on their show during the draft but I wasn’t sure if that was a slip of the tongue assumption or if they had inside intel. That hasn’t been made public yet so we’ll see.

Jahri Evans, G: He came close to signing with the Bills, it seemed, but it never worked out. I’m a little surprised he hasn’t landed anywhere yet. He made it clear when he was released his career isn’t over.

Pierre Thomas, RB: He finally caught on with the Redskins late last year and did a pretty good job with them. You have to wonder where his head is after the whole Will Smith shooting, though. Thomas suffered through a very traumatizing experience there. We’ll see if he still wants to play, I think he showed late last year he’s clearly still capable.

Reggie Bush, RB: He’s 31 and coming off a horrible knee injury. Is he done?

Kevin Williams, DT: Did a reasonable job as a starter for the Saints last year. He’s 35, though. Time to retire?

Mike McGlynn, G: Veteran backup for the Saints last year who used to start for the Chiefs. I’m actually kind of surprised they didn’t bring him back yet. As weak as they are at guard I feel like he would be better than a couple of the undrafted rookies they got.

James Anderson, OLB: Played poorly last year when he was with the Saints.

Anthony Spencer, OLB: I’m thinking he’s done. I wouldn’t mind seeing him in camp either, though.

Tony Hills, T: I’m a little surprised the Saints didn’t bring him back as competition in camp. He was on the roster all year pretty much. Then again, Senio Kelemete showed at the end of the season he was ahead of Hills in the pecking order at tackle… and based on a solid performance against the Falcons, it should remain that way.

Matt Flynn, QB: The Saints are deep at this position and don’t need him back unless someone gets hurt.

Chris Owens, CB: Really struggled last season in spot play.

Kendall Hunter, RB: No real point in having him back.

David Hawthorne, OLB: Looks like his career could be over.

Seantavius Jones, WR: He’s still looking for a job somewhere.
