In only its second promotion North Texas Ultimate Fighting has quickly established itself as one of the regions most consistent amateur MMA promotions.  It’s quickly becoming commonplace to equate exciting fights with an NTUF fight card.  Saturday night further solidified this fact as NTUF put on an all-action affair at The Gym in Arlington.

NTUF Featherweight Championship Fight
Javier Obregon, Jr. (5-1, Travis Lutter BJJ) 4 RD TKO Michael Lytle (4-2, Austin Extreme)
TIme of Stoppage: 1:19 RD 4

The night’s main event did not fail to deliver in terms of action and excitement.  In fact, this fight ay very well be the Fight of the Year here in North Texas.  Things started out at a blistering pace with Lytle enjoying some success early with some strikes and kicks.  But, Obregon would rally back at the end of the round to scores some impressive ground and pound.

Things continued on in the second as Obregon was dropped with a hard shot by Lytle who then tried to capitalize with a guillotine choke.  However, Obregon would prove to be all heart as closed out the round hard with some smothering attacks on the ground.

After some explosive action in the third round, both fighters entered the fourth round weary with fatigue.  Lytle started out firing some low kicks.  Obregon landed a Superman punch but was taken down by Lytle who was looking for the submission.  However, Obregon would deftly avoid these attempts and after posturing up unleashed some violent ground and pound that prompted the referee to capture the win and the title.

NTUF Welterweight Fight
Evan Cutts (4-1, F3) 1 RD SUB (Armbar) Andre Kavanaugh (5-6, Austin Xtreme)
Time of Submission: 2:04 RD 1

Despite being outweighed by ten pounds at the weight in, Cutts showed heart and tenacity in stemming the onslaught of strikes and wrestling from Kavanaugh.  It was clear that Cutts wanted to use his BJJ to negate the size advantage, but Kavanaugh is a beast and got in a few slams and strikes before Cutts was able to land the hanging armbar to win the fight

NTUF 120 lbs Women’s Bout
Jordan Gaza (1-0, American Revolution) 1 RD TKO Kylie Malone (0-1, TFS)
Time of Stoppage: 1:46 RD 1

Arguably the most anticipated fight of the night.  Malone and Gaza engaged in a surprisingly mostly standup battle.  While many thought Gaza would use her edge in ground skills, she chose to enter Malone’s world of standup and emerged victorious with a vicious straight left hand that dropped Malone to the canvas.  A follow up flurry stopped the fight.

NTUF Heavyweight Fight
Chris Goolsby (1-0, MMA Boot Camp) 2 RD TKO (Verbal) Terry Meyers (0-1, Last Man Standing)
Time of Stoppage: 0:10 RD 2

In one of the more bizarre outcomes witnessed in a fight, Goolsby was thoroughly outclassed over the fist round, being taken down at ease and eating some vicious ground and pound by Meyers.  However during the onset of his attack Meyers managed to dislocate his shoulder prompting him to retire on his stool prior to the start of the second round for an improbable win for Goolsby.

NTUF Lightweight Fight
Coda Yazzie (2-0, Texas MMA Academy) 2 RD SUB (Rear Naked Choke) Dayton Biggs (1-1, Rubicon)
Time of Submission:  2:01 RD 2

Coda Yazzie’s wrestling ability is great, that much we knew.  What we didn’t know was how tough Biggs was.  Despite being outclassed handily in the opening round, Biggs never stopped trying to win.  Even as Yazzie clamped on a rear naked choke in the closing minutes of the first round, Biggs never relented, bravely fighting off the submission to survive the round.  However, Yazzie turned up the heat in the second and after using his vaunted wrestling to take Biggs down, he finally clamped in the choke to seal the win.

NTUF Featherweight Fight
Joe Gorman (2-1, TFS) KO 1 Fernando Salas (2-2, North Denton BJJ)
Time of KO: 1:09 RD 1

NTUF Welterweight Fight
Armando Servin (3-0, Alvarez JJ) 1 RD TKO (Strikes) William Badders (2-2, High Power Energy)
Time of Stoppage: 2:20 RD 1

Prior to the bell, Servin looked like a man possessed.  When the bell sounded, he fought like one.  After eating some punches from Badderes, Servin shot in for the takedown.  Pinned on his back against the cage, Badders ribs took a pounding from a multitude of wicked knees thrown by Servin.  With his ribs tenderized, Servin quickly took dominant position and after firing a salvo of hard shots to his downed opponent the fight was stopped.

NTUF Lightweight Fight
David Cashion (1-1, Last Man Standing) 2 RD SUB (North-South) Ryan Nealy (1-2, Hell House)
Time of Submission: 0:51 RD 2

David Cashion showed tremendous poise in dispatching of a very game Nealy.  Both fighters enjoyed some technical transitions on the ground early on but it appeared that Nealy was the more comfortable fighter on the ground.  However, things changed in the second round as Cashion and Nealy exchanged some thunderous blows.  Nealy got a single-leg takedown but Cashion quickly maneuvered to the the north-south position where he slapped on the choke that ended the night.

NTUF Welterweight Fight
Jeremy Metcalf (1-0, Texas Black Belt Academy) 1 RD SUB (Guillotine) Tony Hadley (1-1, CTC)
Time of Submission: 0:33 RD 1

Metcalf made it a short night in his fight.  After winging some hard leg kicks that had Hadley wincing in pain, Metcalf slapped on a guillotine shock as Hadley shot in for a takedown.  The fight was soon called as Hadley was forced to tap.

NTUF Bantamweight Fight
Isaiah Gutierrez (1-0, Team Lutter) 2 RD SUB (Triangle) Sidney Cawdrey (0-2, TFS)
Time of Submission: 1:28 RD 2

Things started out at a blistering pace as both fighters shot out of their corners exchanging bombs.  Gutierrez soon took things to the ground and tried to end things early with a rear naked choke.  Cawdrey was able to stave off the submission attempts to see the second round.  However, Gutierrez siezed control in the second round with some vicious kicks to the midsection of Cawdrey.  Cawdrey’s night soon ended when he found himself inside Gutierrez’s guard when he succumbed to a textbook triangle choke.

NTUF 125 lbs Fight

An exciting three round bout kicked off things at NTUF:  Annihilation.  While both fighters fought valiantly, in the end Garcia did enough to earn the judges’ decision.
