Exploring The Local STL Cardinals Ads

backdraft

Ed Note: This is a special guest post from friend of the site, John Madigan. If you’re ever inspired to write something on the Cardinals, let us know…

I live out of the St. Louis market, so I have to subscribe to the DirecTV package that carries Fox Sports Midwest. No big deal. Although I admire his accomplishments as a player, McCarver is driving me nuts (although I guess it helps me feel smarter by listening to him).

But my roommate, who did not grow up as a Cards fan, is slowly drinking the Cardinals Kool-Aid and becoming a fan. Which is cool.

But she has an issue with the local commercials that are aired on FSMW, which I have subjected her to. She has a point, so let’s break down a few of the more common ones.

DOBBS

“IN-UP-FIXED-OUT. IN-UP-FIXED-OUT”

I like the repetitive nature of this ad, because it does stick in my head.

But as my roommate cleverly pointed out, “shouldn’t there be a ‘DOWN’ in there? You just gonna drive your car off the lift?”

I couldn’t agree more. Dangerous.

TED DREWES

I love Ted Drewes. You love Ted Drewes. That’s not debatable.

But the commercials that look like they are filmed with a poor man’s iPhone? C’mon, guys. Cool slogan though…”It is really is good Guys…and Gals!” But let’s leave the babies out of it.

DIRT CHEAP

Another slogan that is stuck in all of our heads: “CHEAP! CHEAP! FUN! FUN!” And the classic closer, “Be careful out there!” Have I found myself saying this to my friends? Yes, I have.

ST LOUIS TOURISM

Ok this new one is pretty good. The little lady is very cute, and can apparently carry a tune.

Someone get me her number.
