I guess if there’s a reason ESPN doesn’t brand itself “the worldwide leader in geography”…it’s this.
During “SportsCenter” on Wednesday, the network put up the graphic “Coming Up: South Side Surge” and included a Chicago Cubs logo.

Naturally, fans of the lovable losers were upset because, well, that’s not where they’re from.
In 1908, Chicago’s city council determined that Madison Street would serve as the north-south dividing line for the city’s street numbering system. And, for what it’s worth, State Street would act as the east-west divider.
So, geographically speaking, Wrigley Field, which sits on Addison Street, is just under seven miles from what used to be referred to as the “world’s busiest street corner”. Conversely, U.S. Cellular Field is five miles due south of that same intersection.
I guess what I’m saying is this. Facts! Who needs ‘em…especially when you’re attempting some clever alliteration?
