Fake takes from a fake game: Bills/Giants

Warning: This is a preseason game recap. Everything you just witnessed is complete BS. It means nothing. Nada. Zip. If you don’t understand that, please read this and come back to my quick recap which is just as fake.

—Everyone is going to say EJ Manuel was a bit off tonight and that’s probably more accurate than some of his passes were. 2-7 for 19 yards with a couple throws batted down and almost a pick is not going to enamor him with the preseason overlords. Obviously, you know I don’t put much stock into the preseason, but what did perturb me a little was how the Bills decided to go deep a few times and did it without setting up the run. I’m all for going deep, but I think setting up the run and doing some play action to drop the deep ball is a higher percentage throw. But at this juncture, I’m just picking wings off flies because its preseason. He played two drives. The end.

—The defense looked impressive against Eli and the Giants 1st team offense. The starters went against each other on two drives and allowed just 11 yards on 8 plays. Keith Rivers and Nigel Bradham looked good in helping to stop the run and Kyle Williams is still Kyle Williams. Again, its just two drives, but I saw zero blemishes for the 1st team defense.

— I will say this from the rooftop of The Buffalo Wins HQ until I am blue in the face, but backups beating backups means absolutely nothing. Jeff Tuel can throw for 400 yards, but if its against the cast of “The Replacements” movie, it means jack shit. So, don’t listen to WGR this week as a bunch of turds will call the whiner line and act like Tuel is the next Brady.

—BTW, I still believe in Thad as the backup QB. Regular season play means more to me than preseason play.

—Sammy Watch: Zero catches…But was targeted 3 times in two drives.

—Memo to Bon Jovi: If you want to buy something, please take TJ Graham off our hands. You can get into a very dangerous drinking game if you have to take a shot every time he drops a pass. Seriously, we traded a pick to move up in the draft to select him? Thanks Buddy Nix! With Easley’s block punt and TJ’s drops, you better find another player to duct tape their name onto your Johnson/Bledsoe/Parrish #11 jersey.

—Why in the world was Robert Woods with the 2nd team and playing into the 3rd quarter? That doesn’t seem smart and I’ll pummel anyone who tries telling me Chris Hogan is better. Was he late to a team meeting or something? Very odd. At least he finished the game with four catches for 49 yards and a TD. Too bad it came against the 2nd team defense.

—Like almost every Bills preseason, the Bills have like 75 RBs who could probably start. Bryce Brown stood out as he had 9 touches (7 carries/2 catches) for 52 yards and averaged 5.7 yards a carry. I don’t have the slightest idea how they will split carries with Bryce, Fred and CJ.

—From Twitter’s hot takes, everyone seemed to be smitten by Seantrel Henderson, while Chris Williams and Cyrus Kouandjio  stunk. We know where we are with Williams (He sucks) and I need to see more from Henderson since he could be just our new version of Da’Rick Rogers. As for Kounadjio, he’s had a mediocre camp from what everyone says and we were all counting on him to get rid of Erik Pears at RT. By my eyes, he gave up two sacks and just got beat up. Furthermore, he was playing on the last drive of the game, which is pretty bad when you are a 2nd round rookie. Luckily, he has another 6 weeks or so to shape up and kick Erik Pears off this team.

–Duke Williams had a nice game in run support and laid out a couple of nice hits on WRs. He also may have the biggest guns on this team when it comes to guys under the 230lb mark.

—This game means nothing, but it was a great weekend to be a Bills fan. Congrats to Andre Reed for getting in the HOF. I’d watch his speech and enshrinement if it meant watching 900 of these meaningless preseason games.

Final word: One crappy, meaningless game down and four more to go. Let’s hope we don’t kill each other on Twitter with overreaction.
