Seattle Mariners (-22)
Just as the Nats are two-for-two on the positive side, the Mariners are two-for-two on the negative side. And if you’re going to be bad, you might as well be the worst, right?
While trading away Edwin Diaz likely made them plummet down bullpen standings the most, this area of Seattle’s roster got gutted over the winter. Their top-five relievers with regard to fWAR in 2018 were Diaz (3.5), Juan Nicasio (0.8), Nick Vincent (0.6), James Pazos (0.5), and Alex Colome (0.4). None of those hurlers are on the Mariners’ current roster for this season.
Now that’s what you call turnover.
Anthony Swarzak‘s 0.4 fWAR is projected to lead the current group of relievers, but that seems unlikely to come true. Various ailments limited him to 26.1 innings with the Mets last year, which led to a 6.15 ERA and -0.4 fWAR. And as if that wasn’t already bad enough, he’s reportedly trailing over Seattle relievers in camp because of shoulder issues.
