Six MLB hitters who have taken a big step forward in 2019

MLB: Colorado Rockies at Arizona Diamondbacks

Ozzie Albies, Atlanta Braves

It’s not that Albies endured a rough sophomore campaign in 2018. After all, his 3.8 fWAR and 100 wRC+ with 24 homers and 72 RBI were very valuable. It’s just that what he’s been doing this year has been much more consistent.

His ISO hasn’t changed much (.191 to .200) and his 3.3 fWAR is likely on pace to at least be close to what he did last year. However, his wRC+ has jumped up 13 points, and his OPS has increased nearly 100 points (.757 to .843).

Since debuting in 2017, Albies’ batted-ball profile has gone in the right direction:

Albies has also been more consistent at home. After posting a 94 wRC+ and a .145 ISO at SunTrust Park last season, those numbers are currently up at 124 and .234, respectively, so far in 2019.

Many people were certain the seven-year, $35 million contract he signed last year would end up being a ridiculous bargain, and that’s definitely looking like the case. His payroll salary for this year is only $1 million, and the value of his play, according to FanGraphs, is already up at $26.5 million.
