The 10 best MLB players so far in 2019

MLB: Kansas City Royals at Tampa Bay Rays

Cody Bellinger, Los Angeles Dodgers

March/April Stats: 1.397 OPS, .459 ISO, 14 homers, 37 RBI, good for a 256 wRC+ and 3.0 fWAR in 132 plate appearances

Cody Bellinger just wouldn’t stop mashing the baseball throughout April. He tied the record (with Yelich) for the most home runs before May 1st, but also recorded the most RBI and most total bases ever before May 1st, too.

And, sure, it’s only been one month, but he’s at the top of leaderboards in all the important offensive categories.

The same can be said about advanced statistics, too.

Bellinger produced a 40.0% ground-ball rate last year. That number is currently down to 29.9%, with the difference going to his line-drive rate (19.9% in ’18 to 34.0% so far in ’19). His current hard-hit rate on line drives is 72.7%, which is on pace to be a new career high for the second year in a row (55.2% in ’17, 60.5% in ’18).
