James Paxton, New York Yankees
March/April Stats: 3-2 record with a 36.2% strikeout rate, 7.1% walk rate, 3.38 ERA, 2.83 SIERA, and 1.5 fWAR in 34.2 innings
For a team that’s been hit with as many injuries as the Yankees, they’ve gotten everything they could’ve asked for from their new left-handed starter.
The strikeouts are coming in bunches, too, as we saw earlier in April.

If Paxton can keep up his current strikeout rate pace (or close to it), he’d set a new single-season career-high mark for the fourth consecutive year. It’s also fascinating that he’s been much more dominant at home (0.46 ERA in 19.2 innings) than on the road (7.20 ERA in 15 innings).
The southpaw is a fly-ball pitcher, which hasn’t changed now that he’s calling Yankee Stadium home (42.1% fly-ball rate in the Bronx). However, he hasn’t allowed any dingers at home because he’s also paired that fly-ball rate with a 21.1% hard-hit rate, 40.9% strikeout rate, and 4.2% walk rate.
