After a week hiatus, I am back and ready to give you this week’s Surprising Studs and Disappointing Duds.
Surprising Stud – Ryan Tannehill QB, Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins are obviously in a state of turmoil right now after the whole Richie Incognito mess. It is a disaster in south Florida, but I think this week will bring a glimmer of hope. Facing a Chargers team that only has 22 sacks and 4 interceptions. With the Chargers lacking a dominant pass rush, the Dolphins should be able to mask their own pass protection deficiency. Tannehill is a big quarterback that can move, but I can only imagine how he will be able to succeed when he gets to stand in the pocket. Since the Dolphins will most likely be playing catch up, watch for Tannehill to be slinging it around the yard this Sunday. Also, this might be one of the few games that the Dolphins’ big name signing, Mike Wallace, will be able to showcase his downfield speed. Look for Tannehill to have a great week with around 300 yards passing with 3 total TDs, including a 40+ yard pass to Mike Wallace (if you are in a big play bonus league).
Disappointing Dud – Adrian Peterson RB, Vikings
I know that it will be hard for Adrian Peterson to disappoint, but if there was going to be a week where it happens, it is this one. If you consider the Buccaneers game an outlier, Seattle’s defense is unmovable at home, and their offense is only good in front of the loud CenturyLink Field fans. The Vikings may have Christian Ponder, and sadly, he is there best option at quarterback by far. The Seahawks may be able to put 9 men in the box and give up less than 200 yards through the air. The 9 men in the box is what will hurt Peterson. Also, Peterson has not been outstanding this year. He has only eclipsed 100 yards 3 times. This is mostly because the Vikings are always behind, but that will happen again this weekend. If I am a Peterson owner (which I am not because I never had the number 1 overall pick), I obviously start him, but I don’t expect much. I would go with some high risk-reward plays in the rest of my lineup to try to make up for his expected lack of points.
Bold Prediction:
The Ravens stay true to their word and go with the hot hand at running back. Bernard Pierce goes for 100 yards on the ground and a score against the lowly Bears’ defense, and Ray Rice has 4 catches, but less than 100 total yards.
