Fantasy Corner with Greg Danchik !!!

The Bold Prediction from last week put way too much confidence in Matt Schaub. I thought there might be a glimmer of hope for him, but this week made that hope disappear. Matt Schaub has been well-below average since the Week 14 blowout loss to New England. He has 282 completions on 432 attempts with only a 6.75 YPA, a 11:14 TD to INT ratio, and a record of 4-7. TJ Yates could easily be starting by the end of the year. Arian Foster put up a decent performance in a PPR league with 15 points, but only 11 in a standard league is not going to cut it for a top pick. Of course, there are plenty of first round disappointments this year, but Foster was definitely a disappointment last year and hopefully you sat him, or he didn’t cost you a win. The surprising stud was on track for a great game. David Wilson started the game with a touchdown, and I think his 2.67 YPC was purely from a small sample. I think the Giants wanted to pound the rock, but that plan was ruined when David Wilson hurt his neck on a double backflip (TOTAL speculation on my part).

Now for Week 6’s surprising stud, disappointing dud, and Bold Prediction.

Surprising Stud – Terrance Williams, Cowboys WR

A defense that you target for fantasy is the Washington Redskins’ defense. They are the perfect fantasy defense; You start all your players against them, and you start WAS D/ST and you get all the points from turnovers. Miles Austin has been out with a hamstring injury since Week 3. Unless he can manage to get significant practice time this week, I doubt he will be out there an effective. The main replacement for Austin is Terrance Williams. A rookie receiver with 17.6 YPR is pretty impressive. Of all rookie wide receivers with 15 receptions in the past 20 years, only 21 receivers have had a higher YPR. Obviously, Williams’ YPR will continue to fluctuate, but why couldn’t it go higher? Without Austin, Terrance Williams has all the ability to thrive with a statsheet filling quarterback throwing him the ball. Expect a big game from him against Washington and their swiss cheese defense.

Disappointing Dud – Tom Brady, Patriots QB

If this game happened from 2008-2012, I would tell you that Tom Brady will carve up the Saints at home, a team that typically underperforms on the road and has a poor defense. However, the Saints are a different team this year. Rob Ryan has to be one of the best hires Sean Peyton has ever made. Ryan transformed that defense from a bottom 2 defense to a top 5 defense. Giving up 14.6 points per game is an incredible achievement for the Saints’ defense. Now, the Patriots will probably be the best offense they have played so far this year. I just don’t have all the confidence in the world in the Patriots’ offense. Gronk is coming back to help the Patriots, but much like Amendola last week, I expect some serious rust. Brady could lead the Patriots to a breakout offensive game. However, Brady has his lowest YPA in his career at 6.2, and I doubt he changes that significantly in this Week 5 clash with the Saints.

Bold Prediction

Much like their Week 4 loss to the Browns, the Bengals will have a huge letdown after a huge win at home against the Patriots. They go into Buffalo, and lose to the Thad Lewis led Bills. CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson both get 100 yards and a touchdown. (Yes, this is very bold)
