I had a bad week last week. I am going to pretend it never happened and move on. I stand by my thought process, but my bold predictions were way off, the surprising stud failed and disappointing dud dominated. We are going to move on to this week.
Surprising Stud – Lamar Miller, RB Dolphins
The Dolphins’ organization is refusing to give Miller the full workload in the backfield. Daniel Thomas is still getting carries even though he doesn’t deserve it. Anyway, Miller’s talent should shine this week as the Dolphins head to Foxboro for a duel with the Patriots. The Patriots have the worst run defense in the NFL (not including the JV Jaguars). The Pats give up 4 yards per carry and 127.1 yards per game, and the longest run they have given up is 28 yards. This means teams are consistently getting 3-5 yards per carry each time they hand it off. But wait, it is only going to get worse for the Patriots. With Jerod Mayo and Vince Wilfork out for the season, teams will continue to pound the rock on the Pats. Look for the Dolphins to avoid Aqib Talib as much as possible and take it to the ground. Their offensive line is built to run block and not pass protect. If the Joe Philbin wants to win (which he should, its his job to do that), he should recognize that he should just run the ball until the Patriots put 9 men in the box. Then, play-action pass for a Mike Wallace touchdown. Dolphins run the ball, and Miller has himself a day, but they still lose.
Disappointing Dud- Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron, WR/TE Browns
The Browns have given up on Brandon Weeden. Jason Campbell has been named the starting QB, so it is not going to get any better for the Browns’ receivers and Cameron. Last week, these guys combined for just 9 catches, 76 yards and a touchdown against the Packers. Now, the Kansas City Chiefs are the 3rd best passing defense only giving up 194.7 yards in the air per game. They are assisted by the Jaguars’ 107 yard performance in Week 1, but that defense has still been great. They will rack up the sacks against the slow-footed Jason Campbell. I would expect 5-9 sacks for the Chiefs. That doesn’t affect Gordon or Cameron directly, but if Campbell can’t pass the ball, there is no way Gordon and Cameron get it. If Campbell has more than 200 passing yards, I would be shocked. Look for a similar stat line similar to last week from Gordon and Cameron except no touchdown. Sit these guys unless you are in bye week hell this week.
Bold Prediction
Le’Veon Bell breaks out for a monster game against the Raiders. He scores two touchdowns and racks up 150 yards. He puts himself on the forefront of fantasy owners’ minds after lurking under the radar since Week 4.
