Fantasy Football Preview: Washington Redskins

spurrier2

If you have fantasy football prizes in mind this winter, your Washington Redskins are a great place to start. Drafting some of the top following players could mean such fantasy football prizes in your future:

Robert Griffin III, QB

All Griffin did as a rookie was lead the Redskins to their first division title since 1999 and win the Associated Press 2012 NFL Rookie of the Year award. Griffin threw for 3200 yards, but had far fewer attempts than other top passers, with his 8.1 yards per attempt tops in the league.  Griffin had just five interceptions. While he only had 20 TD passes, Griffin also had seven rushing TDs along with 815 yards on the ground.

Griffin’s great season ended on a sour note as he had to undergo surgery on his lateral collateral and anterior cruciate ligaments.  As training camp approached, there appeared to be a good chance that Griffin will be ready for the start of the season, but fantasy owners will want to track his progress in camp and see how much the Redskins allow Griffin to run.

Alfred Morris, RB

Morris, a rookie drafted in the sixth round, probably was not drafted in most fantasy leagues last season, but now he’s a likely first-rounder after rushing for 1613 yards, second only to Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson. Morris’ 13 rushing TDs trailed only Houston’s Arian Foster. Morris finished strong with six TDs in his final three regular-season games and 200 yards rushing in week 17 against Dallas.

Pierre Garcon, WR

Garcon came over from Indianapolis and had a career-high 63.3 receiving yards per game, though he only played 10 games, finishing with 44 catches for 633 yards, both of which led the team. Garcon also had four TDs. Garcon had shoulder surgery in the offseason but did not have surgery on his foot, which caused problems in 2012 and was still an issue for him as of June.

Santana Moss, WR

Moss led Redskin receivers with eight TDs, his highest total since his first season in Washington in 2005. But his 41 catches and 573 yards were his lowest totals as a Redskin. Moss is now 34 and behind both Garcon and Josh Morgan on the depth chart, but Garcon has health issues and Morgan had three surgeries on his ankle and both of his hands in the offseason.

Fred Davis, TE

Davis played only seven games before a torn Achilles ended his season.  He also had offseason knee surgery, but is expected to be ready for the start of the season.  During the games he did play in 2012, Davis failed to score a TD.
