Element Fighting Championship (EFC) staged their second professional MMA promotion Saturday night at the Palladium in Dallas. In what has quickly become norm with EFC, a fight card filled with action was on hand as North Texas fight fans were treated to a night of high-octane cage fights.
In the night’s main event Abilene’s Brandon “For Real” Farran looked spectacular in submitting talented local favorite Cleburn Walker seconds into the opening round. Farran, who has some of the fastest hands in fighting, didn’t get a chance to show of his striking as Walker quickly took the fight to the ground. However, Farran would use his strength to get the reversal and as both fighters where in the clinch Farran sunk in a standing guillotine that forced the Walker tap.
The official time of the submission was 0:51 in the opening round. With the win Farran improves to 7-4; Walker falls to 9-9 in defeat.
In the night’s co-featured fight Louisiana-based Bellator vet Kalvin Hackney survived a late rally surge from Booker Arthur to escape with a victory. Early on it appeared that Hackney would be able to cruise to an essay victory. Using his superior wrestling acumen Hackney was able to take Arthur down and control him throughout the firs two rounds. However, Arthur would not give up and when the two fighters found themselves standing on their feet it was Arthur who was doing significant damage to Hackney with his hands. In fact, Arthur nearly scored the upset in the third round as he put Hackney on shaky legs behind some impressively accurate punches that had Hackney stumbling around the cage and the crowd going wild. Unfortunately for Arthur, Hackney was able to secure some key takedowns in the final round that no doubt allowed him to weather the storm to see the final bell.
In the end Hackney walked away with the unanimous decision victory with scores of 29-28 from all three judges. With the win Hackney improves to 12-3; Arthur falls to 2-3 in defeat.
