Paul Pagano, known to St. Louisans as ‘Father Time’, has passed away at the age of 93.
Mr. Pagano was a WWII veteran who represented the United States in the D-Day invasion of Normandy in 1944, but – most likely – is known by many Cardinals fans as one of the original super fans – smiling and waving as you came in or out of Busch Stadium.
He was rocking a clock around his neck before Flavor Flav made it cool.

Described as “a one-man Welcome Wagon, a self-appointed ambassador of good,” in a 2006 Post-Dispatch feature by Mary Delach Leonard, he reveled in his local celebrity.
“I’m not a movie star or a rock star,” he said. “But I have fans of all ages.”
Mr. Pagano grew up on the near North Side and was the son of an ice and fuel deliveryman. He served in the Army during World War II, clearing minefields with the 531st Engineers. After the war, he sold produce from the back of a truck for about 60 years.
Mr. Pagano is survived by 7 seven children, 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
