We have official ascended into the golden age of MMA coverage. You don’t have to look very far on a typical Friday or Saturday night to find fights to see. Not only do the big names like UFC, Bellator and World Series of Fighting have major television deals, but smaller promotions like RFA, CES, MFC and so many more have outlets to display their talents. To add to that there are not online pay-per-views that add even more fights to the queue. With all of these options out there, a fan might have a hard time deciding which fights they want to watch. Here are four this month you aren’t going to want to miss.
Ray Borg (9-1) vs Justin Scoggins (10-2)
UFC Fight Night: Hendricks vs Thompson – Feb 6th
This matchup features two guys knocking on the door of the flyweight division’s contenders. Scoggins sports a fun kempo karate style with the stance and solid kicks. Borg could not be more different. He’s an excellent grappler with a pair of Performance of the Night bonuses for his submission skills. Getting to see these two duke it out in a battle of styles makes it well worth the $9.99 FightPass would cost you.
Marlon Moraes (15-4-1) vs Joseph Barajas (12-1)
WSOF 28 – Feb 20th
Marlon Moraes has been staking his claim as the best non-Zuffa owned fighter. Having defended his title three times (two if you don’t count the fact that Cody Bollinger missed weight and made it a non-title fight) since winning it in March of 2014, he’s shown off all of his impressive skill set. It’s starting to look like he may even be a top contender as far as the UFC is concerned. However, standing in his way is Joseph Barajas. Barajas is a relative newcomer to the WSOF scene. His strength and submission defense should make this one a close one, but in the end the real reason to watch this is to see if Moraes is as good as we think he is.
Brandon Thatch (11-3) vs Siyar Bahadurzada (21-6-1)
UFC Fight Night: Cowboy vs TBA – Feb 21st
These two are running under the radar and it’s clear why; Thatch is on a two-fight losing streak and Siyar has been away from the game for some time. However, Thatch has some really fun striking and was beating the heck out of Benson Henderson before his grappling led to his downfall. Bahadurzada is a former Shooto champion with a KO of the night over Paulo Thiago. With both of them being able to throw that big KO shot, you’re not going to want to miss this throwdown.
Marcos Galvao (17-6-1) vs Eduardo Dantas (17-4)
Bellator 150 – Feb 26th
After winning Bellator’s Season 6 Bantamweight Tournament, Galvao challenged Dantas for the title. Both having been trained under Andre Pederneiras, this marked the first time two training partners squared off in a Bellator title fight. Although Dantas won the first go-round, it’s Galvao who is now on a four-fight win streak and holds the title. With the first fight being such a great battle, we can’t imagine the rematch being any less.
Peter Queally (7-2) vs Nathan Jones (9-4)
BAMMA 24 – Feb 24th
“The Showstopper” Peter Queally is the next of the Straight Blast Gym members in the line to sign with the UFC. Having fought for so long in South Africa, he’s not really got the publicity he deserves, but his leg kicks are thunderous. His explosive power will be in check against submission ace Nathan Jones. This fight might be one where the winner receives a phone call from our favorite big bald guy.
