Felix Doubront traded to the Chicago Cubs

Red Sox pitcher Felix Doubront has been traded to the Chicago Cubs for a player to be named lated, per Jon Morosi of Fox Sports 1.

Doubront, 26, has struggled this season, posting a meager 2-4 record with a 6.07 earned run average. After starting the season in the rotation, he was moved to the bullpen. He was clearly unhappy with the move, prompting him to request a new role with the organization.

Doubront was quoted by masslive.com of saying “I just want to be a starter and stay there. If I stay (with the Red Sox), they have to know I have to be a starter. If I go, the other team is going to give me this chance to be a starter.”

Red Sox manager John Farrell was unhappy with Doubront’s comments, stating that Doubront was in his current bullpen role for a reason. And that reason, more likely than not, was his performance to date.

Doubront will join former Red Sox general manager and current President of the Cubs, Theo Epstein, and Jed Hoyer, who previously worked under Epstein with the Red Sox.

Epstein signed Doubront as a free agent in 2005.
