Update, 4:33 p.m.:
The NHL has announced that Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference has been suspended for three games without pay for boarding Ryan McDonagh yesterday.
Here’s the video explanation from Brendan Shanahan…
…not surprising, but still disappointing.
Original post:
Katie Strang at ESPN NY reports that Bruins D Andrew Ference has a phone hearing scheduled for this morning regarding his hit from behind on Ryan McDonagh. Because it’s a phone hearing, Ference can’t be suspended more than 5 games.
…did Ference intentionally try to injure McD? Of course not, but it was a very reckless play and until the NHL sends a real message that this kind of hit won’t be tolerated they will continue to happen.
…we can only hope that the Rangers won’t be without their talented young defenseman for too long.
