Field of Dreams Immortalized in Butter

Just when you think you’ve seen almost everything…there’s this.

Earlier this summer, the town of Dyersville, Iowa, celebrated the 25th anniversary of “Field of Dreams” with a jam-packed , star-studded weekend full of baseball and revelry. To compete with the likes of Kevin Costner, Bob Costas and Bret Saberhagen showing up and entertaining more than 10,000 fans at the farm the movie was lensed, the folks at the Iowa State Fair had a different idea when it came to celebrating the Academy Award-nominated film.

Butter.

Since 1911, a larger than life butter sculpture of a cow has greeted visitors to the fair. And this year, the cow is joined by a butter replica of Dwier Brown’s iconic character from “Field of Dreams”.

And the best part, Brown is a fan.

“I’d have to say,” the actor told The Hall, “there’s never been a butter likeness. Haha.”

Now, about that butter statue. “Butter Brown” sits alongside the annual butter cow, preserved in a 40-degree cooler at the John Deere Agriculture Building. It was made by butter sculptor Sarah Pratt and weighs more than 200 pounds.
