I’m crossing Fenway off of my slowly growing lists of MLB stadiums attended today, so I’m not going to be paying as much attention to the Bucs and Reds. Jeff Karstens is getting his first start of the year for the Pirates in place of the injured Ross Ohlendorf. Given his propensity to turn into a pumpkin in/around the fifth inning and the long outing by the Pirates bullpen yesterday, that could be a recipe for trouble today.
The Reds are countering with Edinson Volquez, who’s struggled quite a bit with his control in his first three starts. If the Pirates can make him throw a lot of pitches, they may be able to get to him early. If they swing at everything, he’ll probably have his best start of the year and people will proclaim him “back.”
First pitch today is at 1:10.
