Another exciting one run win over the Phillies…I never tire of ’em. Saturday night’s game had the Crew down 5-4 in the 8th inning, when Prince Fielder crushed a Tom Gordon pitch into the seats in right-field; in the Phils’ ninth, however, newly acquired Tadahito Iguchi tried to mimic Fielder, but the 6′ 6″ Corey Hart reached over the wall to snare the shot back to the playing surface. Derrick Turnbow earned the win to move to 3-4; while Cordero notched his 34th save of the year. The Cubs’ also won, so the Crew remains 1 up overall, and tied in the loss column. This variance will remain until the Cubs play on August 23rd against the Giants and the September 6th game against the Dodgers. The Brewers’ will have a game in hand again the following week, but then the Cubs will, barring any additional rainouts, have a game in hand on the Brewers after the Cubs/Cardinals doubleheader on September 15th. But the Crew plays two more games than the Cubs during the last two weeks of the season, so the Cubs may still have an unscheduled make-up game left at the end…or maybe I just miscounted. The Crew goes for the sweep Sunday afternoon…Jeff Suppan takes the hill for the Crew.
