The Brewers announced this afternoon the list of players and managers scheduled to appear at this year’s Brewers On Deck event — in all, there are 25 current (i.e. on the 40-man roster) players listed, along with nine prospects, eight coaches, and two alumni. If you were hoping to see Prince Fielder at one last On Deck event before he likely leaves via free agency, you’re out of luck…he’s not on the list.
Current players: John Axford, Brandon Boggs, Zach Braddock, Ryan Braun, Craig Counsell, Chris Dickerson, Yovani Gallardo, Mat Gamel, Carlos Gomez, Greinke, Sean Green, Corey Hart, LaTroy Hawkins, Brandon Kintzler, George Kottaras, Jonathan Lucroy, Shaun Marcum, Mike McClendon, Casey McGehee, Chris Narveson, Wil Nieves, Manny Parra, Mark Rogers, Rickie Weeks, Randy Wolf.
Of course, this isn’t really a big deal. He’s missed events like these before, and it’s not like he’d rather be at home eating Doritos and watching crappy movies on Netflix. As Adam McCalvy pointed out, he did represent the Brewers on an MLB Goodwill trip to Japan and China earlier this offseason, which should probably be considered a bigger deal than attending one of the various community gatherings the team is bound to have this year.
But of course, some people are bound to make a big stink about it. Personally, I’d be more upset about the absurdly complicated autograph procedure.
