Fighters of the Week

Fighters of the Week  1. Josh Warrington: Despite entering the fight as the ever-rare underdog champion, mostly due to barely sneaking by Lee Selby, he was facing his toughest test ever in former champion Carl Frampton, and I said in the preview that this was Warrington’s chance to cement himself as a true champion and earn tons of respect, and he did just that. He and Frampton put on a hell of a bout that saw Warrington taking a small, but consistent unanimous decision.

Fighters of the Week  2. Charlie Edwards: At the age of 25, Edwards is the flyweight champion of this world after earning a unanimous decision over Cristofer Rosales on the Whyte-Chisora card.

Fighters of the Week  3. Dillian Whyte: Took care of business in his rematch with Dereck Chisora, sending him down and out in the late rounds in an absolutely fantastic heavyweight tilt, and might be on deck for a bout against Anthony Joshua while the Fury-Wilder rematch happens.

Fighters of the Week  4. Jermall Charlo: Matt Korobov was game, and should be admired for stepping up to a title fight (and stepping down in weight) with just days’ notice, but Charlo got the job done and outpointed Korobov to retain his middleweight championship. Korobov clearly faded in the later rounds, not having prepared for these particular circumstances, and I’d love to see a rematch with a fully-trained Korobov in the future.

Fighters of the Week  5. Liam Williams: Claimed the Vacant BBBofC British Middleweight Championship, which makes him a contender for a world title, as British boxing might be at its highest nadir.

6. Martin Brown: While the acting Titan Fighting Championship was busy, Brown helped stop the Eastern Bloc takeover by defeating Beibit Nazarov in front of his home crowd by UD, claiming the (interim?) Titan Fighting Championship lightweight strap.

7. Juan Perta: I said in my preview for this fight that Kazbek Ashimov would live by the submission or die by the submission, and, well, lost via D’Arce in the third round, and Brown is the new Titan Fighting Championships flyweight champion.

8. Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam: I’m as shocked as you that he and Martin Murray have never fought each other, but alas, they haven’t, and N’Dam N’Jikam got by Murray by majority decision and is now the WBC Silver Middleweight champ, and will be a mandatory very soon.

9. Tatsuya Mizuno: In the main event of DEEP 87 Impact’s card from the legendary Korakuen Hall, Mizuno clashed with fellow JMMA legend Ryuta Sakurai, and came out on top by submission in the second round.

t10. Tyrone Spong: The King of The Ring main evented a card in Suriname on Fite. He escaped with a split-decision, but is still undefeated and is collecting secondary belts in his quest to a world title fight.

t10. Tony Harrison: Welp, he is the new WBC Junior Middleweight champion. That much we know. The scorecards?? Oof.
