ORACLE ARENA, OAKLAND, CA — This is a continuation of the halftime recap of the Dallas Mavericks at the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors took a 56-48 lead into halftime.

3rd Quarter – Mavs Push Pace, Catch Up, Then Fall Behind

Harrison Barnes continued his good play on the night to start the third, with a driving right-to-left layup in which he used his right shoulder to create space from the defender, then Stephen Curry broke his “ofer” from beyond the arc and went off a Draymond Green pick to launch and bury a pivot shot from the deep right wing, good for three.

But Deron Williams hit two threes, then fed Ray Felton wide open from the top for another in transition, and the Mavs had somehow whittled the Warriors lead to 63-59 with 8:53 to go.

Williams added a charging layup, knocking down Curry with no call before converting the scoop. After Klay Thompson missed a right-side triple in and out, Chandler Parsons got hot, drilling a right wing swish from the arc, the fourth made triple for the Mavs, who are not known for that.

That made it 65-64 with 7:27 remaining, but Curry would have none of that, getting the pass back on a side inbound and “toilet-bowling” a trey, then after Klay blocked a Wes Matthews jumper, coming down and swishing a three from the right arc in transition, causing Dallas head coach Rick Carlisle to call timeout with Golden State back up 71-64 with 6:47 left.

Parsons hit another three out of the timeout, then got another on a step-back from the left wing, and Dallas made another push to close the Warriors’ lead to 73-70 with 5:24 remaining.

But Golden State came back with a 19-5 run to close the quarter, as Green hit an open three from the top assisted by Andrew Bogut as the defense collapsed, then Draymond got a layup, slipping the pick-and-roll as the Mavs doubled Steph.

Williams bricked a trey attempt from the top in transition and Curry pushed the ball and made Dallas pay with a lefty overhead pass to Thompson on the right side for a swish which gave the Warriors an 81-72 lead with 4:11 left in the quarter.

…Curry drilled two free throws after stealing a bad pass from Williams and getting fouled in the penalty, and Andre Iguodala laid the ball back in on an offensive rebound of a Brandon Rush missed trey.

Carlisle tried the “Hack-an-Andre” strategy, but Iguodala made both free throws to push the Warriors’ lead to 92-74 at the end of the third period.

Curry scored 11 points in the quarter and Green added 10. The Mavs’ attempt to push the pace backfired in the end.
