ORACLE ARENA, OAKLAND, CA — This is a continuation of the halftime recap of the Dallas Mavericks at the Golden State Warriors.
The Warriors took a 67-36 lead into halftime.
Q3 – Ankle Tweak
Stephen Curry started the quarter with a missed three from the corner on a nice close-out by Dwight Powell, but after Harrison Barnes hit a stop-and-pop going left-to-right against Draymond Green, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr called timeout to get Curry to the locker to have a look at his ankle.
It happened on a play closing out on his brother, Seth Curry:

After the break, Justin Anderson exploded for the Mavs, getting two offensive putbacks including this one:

Before Anderson’s outburst, Durant went to the free throw line and tied Michael Jordan at 72 consecutive games played with at least 20 points scored:

Meanwhile, Klay Thompson missed twice, although Zaza Pachulia got a nice feed from Kevin Durant for an inside bucket.
Thompson made a silly pass to no one after driving the left side, Seth stole the ball from Shaun Livingston on his favorite baseline turnaround move, and Barnes drew a foul to bring the Mavs back to a more respectable 73-53 deficit.
Steph checked back in, but had a very, very slight “limp”, and Livingston was too ambitious on a cross-court pass, resulting in a steal the other way by Seth.
Steph’s little brother pulled up before the left arc and drilled a triple, prompting Kerr to call another timeout as Dallas closed the gap to 73-56 with 4:53 remaining.
Out of the timeout, Steph checked his ankle by running to the corner before the inbound, then ran a play that got him a catch-and-shoot from up top, but it still appeared he wasn’t 100%.
After Powell went down the lane for a nice lefty, Steph got trapped way up top and threw a bad pass on a leaning pivot foot. Seth ended up driving to the lane and lobbing a layup for Powell.
Ian Clark had come in with Kevon Looney and missed a swing pass trey from the right corner fed by Patrick McCaw, but Green tapped the ball out to Steph and he upfake Seth to go into the lane for a rather haphazard banking runner.
That put the Warriors back up, 80-65, with some breathing room, approaching one minute remaining.
With 50.9 seconds to play, Looney rebounded a Clark miss and got the whistle on the struggle for the rebound, then received an impressive touch pass from McCaw that got Looney an “and-one”, although he missed the free throw.
Seth then went too hard off glass with 2.2 seconds to go, but Dorian Finney-Smith was there for the putback slam.
Durant missed a halfcourt heave that looked on line, but shanked the left foam under the glass, and the Warriors took an 84-68 lead into the final frame.
