RECORDS were set yesterday, the Bucs 15 play drive in Overtime was the 2nd longest OT drive since 2004, coming 2nd only to 16 play Chargers drive in their 2013 win.
We know the Bucs converted three 3rd down conversions in OT, but three different players were involved in them: Charles Sims, Doug Martin and Adam Humphries; two players that never played for anyone but Lovie in Tampa Bay.
Bucs won in SPITE of being outgained by 206 yards. NO big deal right? Well according to NFL records, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times points out that NFL Teams that are outgained by more than 200 yards on the road had lost 29 games in a row before yesterday.
The Bucs? They were 0-26 when out-gained by 200 plus yards coming into the game. How did Bucs do it? Plus 4 turnover margin, which according to Auman’s research has teams winning 31 straight games and 94-2 since 2010. Falcons also never punted yesterday, only time the Bucs have ever done that…and won. Amazing.
Jameis Winston’s 21 yard scramble was longest for a Bucs QB since Josh Freeman in 2011. Winston’s two rushing TDs are most for a Bucs rookie.
By the way..did you know Jameis Winston set a record for being the first QB in NFL History to throw for more than 200 yards in each of his first 6 games? That came to an end yesterday, but still! Setting the Bar for other rookies; Jameis Winston!
Bucs infected the Falcons with the penalty bug! After 16 last week for 142 yards, the Bucs only had 8 for 42! Atlanta on the other hand got 11 flags for 124 yards. No shot in the arm for that I guess. Good job coaching staff!
Chris Conte bit on Ryan’s pump fake on the final drive of Regulation, to Banks had no help. Banks addition is a clear boost to the secondary. Without a doubt the Bucs drafting must be addressed to Corner, Safety, DE.
Thomas Bassinger of the Tampa Bay Times calls the win a possible signature moment; Going for it on 4th and 1, showing faith in his offense, which paid off for him in overtime by scooting down the field to win the game in the OT.
Bucs keep bringing up names you’ve never heard of. You had Howard Jones. WHO? Now you have Josh Shirley who made a tackle for a loss. As a result the Bucs are getting better pressure, and better results Sunday in the Red Zone.
Where have the screen passes been for the last 30 years? We always ran a screen pass to James Wilder, then Dunn/Alstott, then ……nothing!! No wonder the Bucs offense is doing better, the screen pass is a basic element to get good running backs the ball more often!
Just think, this game could have been blown open like the Redskin game…the Bucs had to settle for short FGs on the first two possessions.
Add Tony Siragusa to list of those impressed with Jameis Winston. With comments like “I like what Winstons doing, moving linebackers with his eyes, throwing frozen ropes”. When asked more from the booth, Tony adds “He has presence in pocket, Im impressed right now with what I’m seeing from Winston”.
The Bucs defense was always about bend not break: case in point, Falcons gains 496 total yards but won the game. Made the plays at the right time.
Hey, Kyle Brindza. Remember him? Because probably only a few do since Connor Barth has kicked 9 of 9 FGs and 8 of 8 PATs, which are 30 yard FGs, so may as well just say he is 17 of 17 on kicks.
The Minnesota Vikings are 5-2 and currently in the no.2 Wild Card Spot. That Puts the Bucs 2 games behind the Wild Card spot with 9 games left. Yes I said I wouldn’t talk playoffs….until the Bucs could start winning. We’ve beaten two of our division teams on the road. Tampa Bay is 3-4 and lost two games by 24 point comeback and missing FGs like trying to miss the broad side of a barn.
For the Bucs to compete in the Playoff race, the Bucs have to win. Well look no further folks.
Bucs are 2-1 in games they score first, and 3-2 in games they have the lead at halftime.
That means Bucs have had the halftime lead in 5 of the 7 games they’ve played!!! Maybe this is the perfect time to Fire Lovie Smith??
Speaking of which, how about those Garbage Atlanta Falcons fans! Booing your team, your 6-1 team, for going into the half down by ten to the Bucs. Not that Bucs teams haven’t heard the Boo Birds this year, but things were a lot worse. The team was 1-3 and hadn’t made a FG since week 2 it seemed.
Before you say “We never should have gotten rid of Adrian Clayborn, did you see that play he had against us???” that was his only play of the day. Which is why he is not here.
