Michael Finley has decided to stay with the team that gave him his first championship ring. He informed the Spurs this morning that he would not opt out and continue to play under his current contract, which ends after next season.
“We’re very pleased that Michael has decided to remain with our team,” said Spurs general manager R.C. Buford. “Obviously, Michael had a big impact on our team and made great contributions to the success of the Spurs this season. It’s exciting to be able to bring contributing players back to this team to pursue similar success.”
Finley averaged 11.3 points per game throughout the playoffs and had his best series in the conference semifinals against the Suns averaging 13.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
Looks like Mark Cuban will have to wait another year to see if Finley will return to Dallas like he wants him to.
Personally, I’m glad to see Finley back. He really got into a groove when he was inserted into the starting lineup and he’s starting to take shots when he gets the ball instead of pass them up. He’s a smart veteran with playoff experience that has finally found his niche. Hopefully he’ll get his second ring in as many years next season.
