UFC Fight Night: Gonzaga vs. Cro Cop 2 is coming to Kraków Arena in Kraków, Poland on April 11, 2015. The event will be the first that the organization has hosted in Poland, and it will feature the long-awaited rematch between heavyweights Gabriel Gonzaga and returning veteran Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipović. While Gonzaga won the first match at UFC 70 in 2007 with a first round head kick knockout that has become one of the most famous finishes in UFC history, Filipović hopes to get even with a win of his own.
According to international ticket reseller Ticketbis, UFC tickets in Poland are starting from $37.05, which is the cheapest out of the listed upcoming UFC fight locations such as the Philippines, Mexico and Brazil. The most expensive tickets are for the fights on May 30th at Goiania Arena in Goiania, Brazil, starting at $77.88.
There are 11 more fights on the card, a handful of which have big ramifications in their respective divisions. The event also features some new faces, too. With an eight-fight preliminary card and four-fight main card, UFC Fight Night 64 is on pace to impress. In the women’s straw-weight category, there is a matchup of undefeated fighters in Joanne Calderwood (9-0) and Maryna Moroz (5-0). Moroz hopes to score a huge victory in her debut, but she faces a stiff challenge in the No. 6-ranked Calderwood. In the Light Heavyweight, there is a fight between the No. 9-ranked Jimi Manuwa (14-1) and winner of six straight fights Jan Blachowicz (18-3).
The preliminary card has a great deal of intrigue as well. Lightweight Steven Ray (16-5) will take the UFC Octagon for the first time against Marcin Brandel (13-3), who is looking to welcome the rookie fighter. Also, Featherweights Taylor Lapilus (8-1) and Rocky Lee (3-0) will make their debut in UFC against one another, which many expect to be decided by grappling. Eight of their combined 11 victories have come by way of submission. The preliminary card also features a fight between 34-year-old Yaotzin Meza (20-9) and 25-year-old Damian Stasiak (8-2) in the Featherweight division, a match with a great deal of intrigue and flare.
With three ranked fighters on the card and a plethora of interesting matchups, UFC Fight Night 64 figures to be a prominent night in the sport and an exciting setting in Poland. Regardless, the magnitude of Cro Cop vs. Gonzaga cannot be understated. This fight is revenge for the embarrassing finish suffered by Filipović.
