Ozzie Albies, 2B, Atlanta Braves
Albies took his 244-plate-appearance rookie season from 2017 and apparently had one general takeaway — to swing a helluva lot more. After posting a 51.4% swing rate in 2017, the young second baseman has ramped that up to 58.0% this year.
His contact rates in each corresponding campaign look basically identical, but he’s been just as effective as last year from a wRC+ standpoint. He’s also added a 20-homer season to his ledger in the process.
The sample sizes are obviously lopsided, but the switch-hitter has been more effective against left-handed pitching (132 wRC+) than right-handed pitching (107 wRC+), although his ISO is similar regardless of the platoon split.
