Five Most Surprising Teams

Earlier we took a half glass empty approach and looked at the five most disappointing teams in college football. Now it’s time to shine the light on some of the pleasant surprises thus far in college football….

Notre Dame– Most people probably had the Fighting Irish pegged at 2-2 or maybe 3-1 at this point in season. Instead they are 4-0, have beat two top 25 teams and are in the AP top ten. The defense has played well so far, can they keep it going?

Oregon State– Mike Riley came into the season firmly planted on the hot seat by many writers. They have only played two games so far but they have two wins over top 25 opponents to show for it.

Rutgers– This past off-season their head coach took off for the NFL. Problem? Not yet. The Scarlet Knights have managed to win their first four games out of the gate including a win over USF in Tampa and Arkansas in Fayetteville.

Minnesota– The Golden Gophers have already won more games than they did all of last season. Sure, they didn’t exactly look great in their opener against UNLV but they did beat a good mid-major team in Western Michigan (who beat UConn this past week) and also beat Syracuse this past weekend.

Northwestern– They were the first team to beat three BCS conference opponents. Sure it was just Syracuse, Vandy and Boston College…but they still won the games. Taking a peak at the Wildcats upcoming schedule shows a possibility that the Wildcats could be undefeated for about another month. Can they carry the B1G banner while others in the league struggle?
