Week 4 of the NFL season was about toughness in big games. Here are five QB takeaways from Week 4:
5- Despite losses, Bortles, Weeden and Bridgewater show upside
Blake Bortles, Brandon Weeden, and Teddy Bridgewater all lost over the weekend, however each QB battled for their teams, eventually losing close games. Bortles gave the Jags two chances to win on field goals, Weeden led Dallas on a 91-yard drive that culminated in a touchdown pass with under 2 minutes to play, and despite 7 sacks, Teddy Bridgewater had Minnesota in position to tie/win the game with a last minute drive that ended on a fumble.
4- Division Big Game Hunter Nick Foles wins again
Nick Foles is winless outside the division, but undefeated in his own. The top two teams in the NFC West both have L’s on their record, thanks to the St. Louis Rams led by QB Nick Foles. Four of his five touchdown passes on the season have come against his fellow NFC West rivals.
3- Tannehill-Kaepernick continue struggles
Ryan Tannehill and Colin Kaepernick went from QBs of the future, to QBs in some trouble. In the last two weeks alone, both have combined for 10 Interceptions (5 each) and two ugly losses. While speculation swirls as to the future of Kap in San Francisco, Tannehill’s head coach was fired on Monday, which was followed up by a character hit on the Dolphins QB on Tuesday.
2- Brees battles through shoulder injury, tosses TD pass 400 in win over Dallas
Drew Brees was hurting, it’s no secret, he’s got a bum shoulder. On Sunday night, every throw he made looked painful, yet the only person hurting at the end of the night, were the Dallas Cowboys, as Brees led the Saints to a much needed first win on the season, tossing for a pair of scores, including the game winning 80-yard walk-off in overtime, which just happened to be the 400th TD pass of his career.
1- Flacco toughness leads Baltimore to 1st win on season
Staring at an 0-4 start, Joe Flacco calmly and coolly, led the Ravens on a drive that started at their own 31-yard line and ended with game tying 42-yard field goal. Standing tough in the pocket knowing that Pittsburgh was blitzing their cornerbacks like crazy, Flacco again led Baltimore downfield in OT as the Ravens pulled off an improbable 23-20 win over the Steelers.
Flacco and the Ravens took advantage of two 4th quarter field goal misses by Pittsburgh en rout to the win.
