Want the final word on who the starters are? Just watch the first half, and the first series of the second half, no matter which side of the ball it is. Raheem Morris has said in his press conference yesterday that the 3rd preseason game will get the starters going the entire first half, and who ever comes out first in the second half, be it defense or offense, will go one series to get used to coming out of the tunnel and adjusting to 2nd half game planning. All indications are Vincent has replaced Zuttah at left guard which makes Zuttah a fantastic option for depth at any of the 5 positions. Also, Sabby Piscitelli is done as the starter barring any injury to Sean Jones. These two guys show you the Bucs were smart in how they brought in Free Agents. Derrick Ward’s time is running out in his battle that he probably didn’t even see coming going into this preseason; a fight for the #2 Running Back behind Cadillac Williams with whom he was originally brought here to compete against. Truth be told, Ward doesn’t really represent any difference in running style from Williams, while the competition Kareem Huggins is more of a Warrick Dunn type runner who, if he hits a hole, can take it the distance for a TD. Each year a Mr. August appears, and this year its Huggins, expect him to continue to dominate and get some carries in the regular season.
Adam Schien posted a video where he predicted the Bucs and Rams would fight it out for the #1 draft position next season, meaning the Bucs will stink. The reasons he gave? That a problem child WR who fell to the fourth round is your No. 1 Wide Receiver. Well didn’t Randy Moss come into the NFL with a troubled career too? Anyways, it just goes to show you how little you can go with these NFL wide guys and instead listen to the local beat writers who are actually in camp and see these players, like Gary Shelton, Ira Kaufman, Anwar Richardson, Roy Cummings, Rick Stroud, and the likes. The big question is who is going to be the Z receiver, now that Mike Williams is solid at the X spot, opposite the Tight End. Maurice Stovall was leading the pack, but was injured, Reggie Brown from Philly was brought in but did nothing to show himself as any type of Z receiver except alphabetically where he may end up on the depth chart! Seems the Bucs best bet is going to be Sammy Stroughter, who is simply a play maker. Alot is being made about Kellen Winslow not playing and maybe not playing a down this preseason. Worry not, K2 is a Star Player who does not need preseason to get ready. In fact, he didn’t really play that much last preseason in week 3, and all he did was break the Bucs Franchise Tight End record, thats all. Kellen Winslow Jr will be just fine in 2010 and beyond, expect nothing less from the best TE playmaker since Jimmy Giles. Finally, there has been a little rumbling about the lack of pressure by the D Line so far, and that is not entirely a concern, just yet. For one, KC QB Matt Cassel let go of some quick passes Saturday night. Most of them were 3 step drops, and even then he had McCoy get in his face a few times. Keep in mind that Warren Sapp got all of one sack in his rookie year, and that for the most part, defensive linemen require some development time. Not always, but this 2010 season is going to be fun for us as fans watching him grow over the 16 games. Anything we get is going to be a bonus. Brian Price, Roy Miller, and Gerald McCoy are the foundation of the new Buccaneer defensive line. One may do better than the other on any given week, but in the end this unit will provide the heat needed to rise back up to top dog status again in Buc Land.
