With six games already behind them, the Flyers haven’t gotten off to the start they were looking for.  Their problems are not just with their 2-4 record though. Losing their top goal scorer of last season, Scott Hartnell, and one of their best defenseman, Andrej Meszaros, are absolute killers to a team that is already weak on the defensive side and of goal scoring. With the addition of Mike Knuble and the return of Danny Briere, the Flyers will be getting back a good amount of offensive power.

Unfortunately, I don’t think that will be enough to make the Flyers a serious contender for a playoff push.  With the shortened season, every game counts, and missing your top goal scorer for up to two months will kill the Flyers.  Also, they have about $60,000 in cap space, so Holmgren can’t even make a move to strengthen the team.  Unless guys like Brayden Schenn, Sean Couturier, Wayne Simmonds, and Matt Read have bigger years than they had last year; I can’t foresee another playoff run for the boys.  Even if Bryz has a big year.
