Flyers Making Moves?

As some of you may know already, the Colorado Avalanche are shopping their young RFA forward Ryan O’Reilly and the Flyers have been rumored to be in the mix for him. The asking price from the Aves is a steep one. They want a prospect and a top six forward.

For me, O’Reilly is not worth nearly that much, especially because he wants a long term deal for $5.5 million a year. For a guy that has 107 points in 236 total games played in the NHL and a career high of 55 points last season after having back to back 26 point seasons just doesn’t work for me. I feel like he is a really good 3rd liner or an average 2nd liner at best in this league, and the Flyers have a ton of those types of players.

If the Flyers are going to make a move, I would like to see them either get a top 4 d man or a top line goal scoring forward. With the current market, the best option for the Flyers on the defensive side is Phoenix Coyotes defenseman Keith Yandle. Yandle is 25 and currently under contract for 3 more years at a little over 5 million per year. The asking price from Phoenix could consist of someone like Laughton and a pick or another prospect, which I would definitely do. As for a top line goal scorer, there is not much of a market. Sure Jerome Iginla is there but he’s a short term fix. We need long term.
