Flyers Notes: Akeson Recalled From Phantoms; Timonen Still Not Cleared

The Flyers have recalled forward Jason Akeson from Lehigh Valley.  He will be a game time decision tonight against Buffalo based on the health of Matt Read.

This could be the offensive spark the team is looking for after being shut out in two consecutive games.  They have not scored in a goal in over 144:00 of hockey.

Akeson averages nearly a point per game with the Phantoms.  So far this season in Lehigh he has 17 points (8 goals, 9 assists) in 19 games.  He started the season in Philadelphia.  He played in the first 12 games and did not register a point.

‘He played some decent games and then there were some inconstancies in his game,’ said Flyers head coach Craig Berube.  ‘He is so used to producing and scoring in the American Hockey League, but when you come up to the NHL you are not really in that position.’

He also played last season in the playoffs against the Rangers.  He scored 2 goals and had an assist in the series.

‘He has got good skill,’ Berube mentioned.

In other news released Saturday morning, Flyers GM Ron Hextall said that Kimmo Timonen has still not been cleared to play.  Philadelphia has waited all season for Timonen to get back into the lineup after blood clots were found in his lungs and legs in the off season.

Timonen recently had a full body scan to check on the clots.  The test results came back positive and some of the clots remain.  The clots in his lungs have cleared but not in his leg.  He probably will not return this season.

He has been working out off the ice but has not been able to sakte.  ‘I feel great and mentally I am really good, working out Monday through Friday, and I’m ready to go but it’s not up to me,’ said Timonen.  ‘I won’t take that chance and I’m sure the team won’t let me take that chance.’
