The Flyers are Rolling

The Philadelphia Flyers are playing very well right now. The record may not show it but the Flyers are playing every team they face for the most part very well. They have beaten 2 of 3 Conference finals teams from last year this season and almost beat the Lightning also. The only game where the Flyers have looked outplayed was the second game of the season versus the Florida Panthers. But, there were many reasons that factored into that game turning out like it did. Other than that the Flyers have been consistent for the most part. Right now they sit at 4-2-1 with 9 points in the metropolitan division. They are coming off a huge win versus the New York Rangers at home on Saturday night, when they won in a shootout 3-2.

Another impressive thing so far this season is Dave Hakstol’s coaching style. He has a very face paced style and it seems as it is working out very well for the Flyers as of now. As for stats wise for the Flyers. Mark Streit and Wayne Simmonds are in a tie for the team lead with 5 points a piece. One player who is having a surprising slow start to the season is Jakub Voracek who currently has 3 points in 7 games. Last year he led the league in total points at this time. But fear not yet, it’s still very early in the season and we all know what Jake is capable of, so we should not be too worried about him right now.

If I had to pick one player that is surprising me this year for the Flyers I would have to say it would be Sam Gagner. He was benched for the first two games of the season and came off the bench in game three and has produced 4 points in 5 games. Two of which were amazing goals. Something about him has me excited, but he still has a lot to prove. The Flyers have the best start of a season for them in quite a few years. They will try to keep the success rolling tomorrow night as they face the Buffalo Sabres. Tomorrow night the Flyers will also be having a retirement ceremony for Danny Briere. Stay tuned, and Let’s go Flyers!
