First Period: The game started with the Wild applying early pressure keeping Steve Mason on his toes. Michael Raffl generated a nice rush to set up Sean Couturier for the first goal of the game. Brayden Schenn also picked up the assist. The Flyers had the momentum post goal, but the Wild set up a nice screen in front of Mason and Marco Scandella ripped one past Mason to tie the game at one. Mikko Koivu was sent to the box towards the end of the period, however, the Flyers could not cash in on the power play. The period ended in a 1-1 tie.
Second Period: The second period started slowly with a lot of back and forth play, but that all changed when Wayne Simmonds and Ryan Carter got into a pushing and shoving match. The scrap resulted in them getting a 2 minute roughing penalty and sending the game into some 4 on 4 play. The Flyers took advantage when Michael Del Zotto put one passed Devan Dubnyk with a beautiful feed from Brayden Schenn. The Flyers were at it again 52 seconds later. Ryan White put the Flyers up two with a nice back hand. The goal was assisted by Chris VandeVelde and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare. With 4:02 to go in the 2nd period, Jason Zucker get one back for the Wild on a breakaway goal. There was some bad news for the Flyers in the second. Shayne Gostisbehere only played two shift and was reported to have an injury. The Flyers lead 3-2 at the end of the second period
Third Period: The Wild picked up an early power play, but Steve Mason stood tall to keep the Flyers in the lead. The game got chippy again after a late hit by Ryan White and some retaliation from the Wild’s Nino Niederreiter. White went unpenalized but Niederreiter picked up a 2 minute slashing penalty, giving the Flyers another power play. However, the Flyers couldn’t convert on the power play even though there were plenty of chances. Flyer’s defenseman, Nick Schultz, helped out his former team by coughing up the puck in front of Steve Mason and Zach Parise buried it making it 3-3.
Overtime: Overtime was more of the same back and forth with both goalies playing exceptionally well. Nonetheless, with seconds left, Michael Del Zotto put one passed Dubnyk for the game winner.
Gostisbehere Update: The Ghost didn’t return back to the game he is out with a lower body injury
